Best Way to Polish A Car

In order to learn how to polish a car, we must first distinguish between polishing and waxing. Polishing a car and waxing a car are two very different steps in the detailing process, but often get grouped as one and the same. 

Polishing a car is unlike waxing because you must work the polish in, breaking down the abrasives, in order for it to work most effectively. This can be done using friction and/or heat, something much more heavy duty than the power your own two hands and a microfiber cloth.

Now, here is the complete step by step guide to yield the best results when polishing your car.

Step 1: Wash Your Car

Wash thoroughly to remove all surface dirt and contaminants.

Step 2: Dry

Whether you let your car air dry or wipe it dry, be sure that your car is completely dry before moving on to step 3.

Step 3: Apply Polish

Apply the car polish using a light foam pad, your own hands, or a clean microfiber cloth. Divide the car into sections and complete Steps 3, 4, and 5 in each section separately.

Step 4: Work in the Polish

Use overlapping, varied strokes and ensure that the edges of any defects are evenly rounded. Your polish should become increasingly transparent as it is worked into the vehicle.

Step 5: Buff

Use a buffer machine or buff by hand to completely work the polish into the car.
